Understanding Health Evidence for professionals

What you’ll learn

  • How to interpret and explain key health evidence using everyday language. This includes risk, odds, confidence intervals, p-values, and more
  • Techniques for producing and comparing data in tables and charts
  • How to understand the accuracy of health evidence
  • Issues to consider when multiple comparisons are made on the same data
  • Types of study designs and why they matter
  • How much one can read into ‘statistically significant’ results and if they should dictate the insights drawn from the data or not
  • What to consider if the reported results are not what you expect

Format

  • Taught using real life examples, a live experiment, and visualisations to convey concepts, without overwhelming formulae or number crunching
  • Delivered using a combination of presentations, group discussion, short videos and activities
  • The focus will only be on interpreting and understanding health information, and will not be on calculating it
  • There is time for questions throughout the course and a dedicated time at the end of each session for further questions and discussion on content of your choosing
  • Note: online class size is limited to 6 participants for a personalised learning experience

Testimonials

Engaging, interactive, clear, plenty of time for questions.

Fun, it was good to have activities and to be in a small group to be able to ask questions and get detailed responses.

Already applying it [knowledge gained through this course] in better critical reading of articles, more careful analysis of the work I am doing and whether I am using numbers in a logical and correct way, and handling data in a way that will lead to useful and correct results

Good for an online course. Nicole was energetic, passionate and very personable.

Face-to-face, small groups, plenty of time for questions and a presenter who clearly cared about making sure we really understood and could apply this knowledge to our work.

Excellent. Nicole is a great communicator and educator.

I really enjoyed the course and found it interesting and useful. I’d certainly be interested in other courses offered by Simplify Stats for future professional development.
